TEMPO is a state-of-the-art, well-equipped music school and community arts space in Blacksburg, VA.

TEMPO is a place where kids, teens, and adults alike can further their skills in a variety of instruments, genres, and mediums in an environment focused on a mission of community, excellence, diversity, and both arts-based and STEM-based skill-building.

Nancy Harder (M.M., MTNA) founded TEMPO after 15+ years of teaching classical piano and voice professionally, from university level to pre-K, to offer both superior training and a fun, motivating atmosphere for students.

Tempo’s education model is working with each person’s unique passions and talents to support their training, focusing on goals to foster lifelong skills in music and the arts, while engaging in and building community in a meaningful way. Tempo Voice

Important Info

ADDRESS: The studio is conveniently located in Blacksburg, VA in the heart of downtown Blacksburg. 119 N. Main Street, Suite 101. Blacksburg, VA 24060.

PARKING: Street parking is available, as is metered parking at the Farmer’s Market round-a-bout. (Meters are free after 5pm.) Students are typically dropped off here, though Tempo is not held liable if students walk unaccompanied to the studio or are left alone prior to or after lesson/class times. Parking is also available at Kent Square Parking Garage, two blocks from the studio.Cody Lopez

Curriculum:

The studio offers an individualized curriculum based on each student’s goals and current level. The plan of study generally includes repertoire in all styles, theory, ear-training, technique, and sight-reading.

Lesson Format:

Lessons are offered in a private format (either half-hour or hour) and the structure is designed to meet the needs of the student.

Performance opportunities:

A variety of competitive and non-competitive performance opportunities are available to students throughout the year. All students are encouraged to participate in accordance with their own desires and goals.CPVAbburgpiano

Tuition:

Semester tuition is based on lessons, preparation, and participation in all studio events. Tuition is due at the first of the month. A $20 late fee will be applied to all accounts not paid by the 8th.

SEMESTER PAY SCHEDULE

Students receive 12 weekly Lessons per fall and 16 per spring semesters.

A flat monthly payment is based on 12 lessons from September 25 – December 18, 2017.

  • 30-minute lessons: $400 for semester tuition -OR- 4 monthly payments of $100.00. (Full payment discount = $380 if semester paid in full.)
  • 60-minute lessons: $680 for semester tuition -OR – 4 monthly payments of $170.00. (Full payment discount = $650 if semester paid in full.)

STUDIO POLICIES

Students are expected to attend lessons regularly. There are no credits or refunds.

Please give 24-hour notice of any planned absence. In the event of unexpected illness, emergency or a planned absence (with 24-hour notice), we will attempt to re-schedule the lesson within the same month.  A no-show lesson or insufficient notice of absence will result in no make-up or a charged lesson.  In the event that I must cancel a lesson, that lesson will be rescheduled.  There is no guarantee that every lesson will be made up by the end of the school year. Nolessons will be refunded or credited.

Snow Days: If the public schools close due to snow, lessons will be rescheduled.  Please inform me if you are unable to make lessons due to inclement weather.

Withdrawing from the studio: Students are expected to remain in lessons for the entire semester. In the event that you or your child withdraws before the end of the semester, you will be asked to give 30 days written notice or pay one month’s tuition.
